A Decade of Data Intelligence: OQLIS celebrates 10 years of success in the Data Analytics industry

OQLIS Staff Writer

In 2014, OQLIS founder and CTO, Andrew Bosma was brave enough to decide the world needed more software. The company set about on a mission to build software that facilitates how modern enterprises consume data analytics in the future. This includes insights delivered over the web, through an intuitive interface, leveraging the data they already had. It was the fundamental driving force behind starting OQLIS.

The vision Andrew and CEO Shawn Winterburn had for the company, could not have been better fulfilled after its successful 10-year tenure. OQLIS today helps hundreds of customers and partners make the best and most strategic decisions for their businesses, underpinned by their business data.

“What’s important about this benchmark is that when we look at our growth and the number of people that have interacted with us and with the OQLIS software, I know we are going to do great things in the future if you project that growth forward”, says Andrew Bosma.

“We’re hitting the thousands mark in terms of users that have interfaced with the system. And if you look at the amount of data points that we’ve analysed and consumed, I don’t think you could even measure that.” He continues: “If we continue to execute on our vision there’s no limits to what we can achieve”.

The long-term vision for OQLIS is to understand how businesses consume their data continuously. Data is becoming the fabric of how every organisation interacts with its product, its patrons, and its employees. The world is moving away from siloed systems, and data visualisation is becoming the new ERP or central system that will be the primary place from which businesses will make their decisions.

“What differentiates OQLIS is our vision for the future and how we can do all those things in one platform.  So I think for us, what we saw in our customer base, is that people need more than just software. Sometimes people have a skills problem, or they’ve got a knowledge-sharing problem. I think the key Insight we had is that our customers need from us expertise, they need from us experience, and they need from us knowledge to build those solutions that they have the vision for” he concludes. “Coupling expertise with software has allowed us to deliver value to customers: faster, more effectively, and ultimately produce a better experience for the customer.”

Fast-forward 10 years, and OQLIS has extracted data analytics from trillions of endpoints,  significantly grown its staff count, and successfully runs its business from two locations: Pretoria, South Africa; and Auckland, New Zealand (established in 2022). OQLIS CEO and co-owner, Shawn Winterburn emphasizes the benefit of the OQLIS global expansion: “We have reduced risk in terms of a single location and now support a larger diverse customer base. I think there is only an upside to our business and our customers.”

What’s next for The Data Insights People? The company plans to put a large focus on growing its partner ecosystem, putting scalable systems in place to empower these collaborators and resellers even more. More importantly, as they solve business challenges for their customers, they always work to mature the software with helpful modules and features.
